Evan Hughes attended the University of Michigan on an Army ROTC scholarship. During every summer break in college, Evan worked as a laborer for a construction contractor doing large commercial projects in New York City and the tri-state area. He also worked weekends as a carpenter for a small custom homebuilder.

Evan graduated from the University of Michigan with an A.B. in Economics in 1986 and he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army that same day. He went on to serve four years in the Army as a tank platoon leader and then as the executive officer of a tank company. He left the Army in 1990 to attend the John Marshall Law School in Chicago.

While in law school, Evan was a staff editor on the John Marshall Law Review. He was selected to represent the school in the National Moot Court Competition and also in the National Trial Advocacy Competition. Evan graduated cum laude, from the John Marshall Law School in 1993 and was licensed to practice law that same year.

Evan’s first job out of law school was as an associate with a large law firm in Chicago. Evan was assigned to the department that defended large construction contractors and product manufacturers in mostly injury related lawsuits. After a few years working at the firm, Evan became disenchanted because he discovered that in many cases, the firm’s corporate clients paid only lip service to safety matters. In other words, they were only concerned about making it look like they took safety seriously, but in practice they were more concerned with finishing the job or making the product as quickly and inexpensively as possible and safety was a secondary concern at best.

In 1997, Evan left the large firm and began exclusively representing injured workers in pursuing their rights under the Workers’ Compensation Act and in representing individuals in civil lawsuits for personal injuries and wrongful death caused by negligent construction contractors, product manufacturers, motor carriers and others. He has specialized in this area ever since. Evan started his own firm in 2001. He has helped hundreds of deserving people to obtain fair compensation for their losses.

Evan lives in Chicago with his wife and two sons.
